With temperatures already approaching 90 degrees here in Litchfield Park, AZ I found myself taking a hard look at our pool and thinking “it is getting very close to the start of swim season”. For those folks who live in Litchfield Park and do not have their own backyard oasis, you’re in luck. The City of Litchfield Park will be opening the community swimming pool at the Recreation Center April 1 2013. Open swim begins at 2 p.m. and will end at 7:30 p.m. that day.
On April 6, the city will be celebrating the pool opening with “April Pool’s Day” (no joke) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., said Sonny Culbreth, director of Parks and Recreation for Litchfield Park. This is the first year the pool will offer free swim for all. Last year, non-members were charged the regular fee of $3 to participate in the opening event. The city will also be offering swim lesson sign-ups at the opening April 6. Children have to be at least 30 months old to participate in the lessons.
The opening and celebration event will be the first opportunities for swimmers to check out the off-season renovations to the pool. The entire pool deck was resurfaced and all of the pool furniture has been reconditioned.
This is the fourth year the pool has been closed during the winter season as Litchfield Park st-cutting measure. The city expects to have the pool open through Labor Day in September.
The pool is located at 100 S. Old Litchfield Road. For information regarding swim times and classes for the Litchfield Park pool, visit www.litchfield-park.org and go to the recreation page.
